If you are considering buying a used car, a pre-purchase inspection is a must. Don't be a dummy be smart. A Carfax is good, but doesn’t tell you the full story and/or the condition of the vehicle. Most used cars do not come with any type of warranty. You are on your own if you find out that the car needs some serious repairs after the initial purchase. We have seen this unfortunate experience occur many times over the years when the vehicle wasn’t inspected.
Here at Westside Mercedes, we do a 2-hour inspection of the entire vehicle from top to bottom. We do a complete diagnostic inspection of all mechanical components to make sure that they are all working properly and will inform the buyer of any mechanical work which will be required. All systems are tested i.e. A/C, heat, windows, sunroof etc. In addition, we also inspect the entire exterior body of the vehicle as well as the condition of the paint.
After the presale inspection has been completed, we will inform you of our expert opinion to either buy the vehicle or pass on it. If any problem is found that the seller did not list, then this report can be used to negotiate the purchase price.
Getting a pre-purchase inspection is well worth it for peace of mind and to secure your investment. Give us a call today to schedule your pre-sale used car inspection.

Common PPI Car Inspection Questions | Ask Ken
Is a pre-purchase inspection something that you guys can go out to the place to look at or do we have to bring it to your shop?
The car has to come here, we bring it into the shop, put it up in the air. Go through the entire car. You will get a list of what the car needs. What the costs are to repair the vehicle. If it’s been in an accident. The quality of the paint. Everything. I've been doing pre-sale inspections for 40 years and can figure out what is wrong whether you are looking at a car from the 70s or a modern car with today’s technology. If you are buying the car from the dealership they are familiar with this process. If you are buying the car from an individual, and they won't let you do a PPI, they could be hiding something with the vehicle.
I wanted to inquire about doing an inspection in Los Angeles. Whether or not you guys do a PPI for a 1968 Mercedes Benz 250SL Pagoda?
Yes, I go over everything on those cars. I've been doing it for 40 years. You're getting it from a dealer or private individual.
OK, before buying a car you want to get as much information as you can. This will help you determine if the asking price is worth it.
You want to ask how long they've owned the car and if they have all the documentation.
Without the documentation, the car isn't worth anything. Listening to someone say, “Well I had this done or that done,” without documentation it’s meaningless. So having all the documentation is really important. This way you can see what's been done over the years to the car.
These cars are really expensive to deal with, whether it's mechanical, interior, body, convertible top, frame, all the stuff is really expensive. If it has air conditioning? If it's the original York system or some aftermarket? I mean there are so many things that you have to deal with with these cars.
It's not like when I was a kid, you can pick up one of these cars for $2500. It's completely different now. I deal with these cars that are worth $150,000. So depending on the condition of the luxury vehicle, you could drop $40,000 in a heartbeat.
So that's why I'm saying to you, get all the information that you can about the vehicle. The history and that whole thing. Because it's really important.
Like your saying, I want to know what the underbelly of the car is like. Are there any issues going to be a problem down the road. Is it a good car? Is it overpriced for what it is?
Well, I deal with this stuff all day long, so I have a general idea of what's going on with the car. Once we put the car up in the air that tells you everything right there. Like I said, people can tell you anything, “the car is original,” but it's meaningless. You have to do a pre purchase inspection from someone that knows these cars. Someone that's old enough like me to have dealt with them back in the day.
We can do it. It takes me about half a day at least to go over the car properly. I'll give you a list of what the car needs, and what costs are involved. This way you can use that to go back to negotiate the price.
